i hate typing out that band name.

excellent progressive rock from london; lovely musicianship all around. there's a lot of focus on piano and violins. this band is sometimes grouped with the "avant-prog" bands, probably due to the somewhat circus-like style of the music, but i enjoy this more than any of those bands simply because it is a lot less gimmicky. that, and there's no vocals, which can often ruin bands like these.

i just found out that they also have an EP so i might post that too when / if i download it.

cntrl-alt-delete-u has better songs, except it's sort of ruined by the nonsense that goes on for 20 minutes at the end of the last song.

The Paper Chase - Hide The Kitchen Knives

one of my favorite bands (though their more recent albums are superior to this), The Paper Chase mix dissonant noise rock and horrifying lyrics with beautiful piano melodies. the end result is somehow some of the catchiest music i've ever heard. a lot of people hate john congleton's vocals, but i've never thought they were intolerable. just a warning i guess.

The Olivia Tremor Control - Black Foliage: Animation Music Volume 1

one of the better bands on the elephant 6 record label. similar to kay kay in some ways, but this focuses less on a polished, poppy sound and instead creates trippy, distorted and sometimes downright bizarre songs.

Kay Kay side project, this is overall a lot more aggressive. i'd say it even has a bit of punk influences. the first track isn't that good but it gets a lot better.

Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground

i fucking love this band. it's basically psychedelic poppy shit. usually i don't like this type of music but this is one of my favorite bands, it's lovely music. it may look a bit pretentious, but it doesn't take itself too seriously.

dark, noisy and disturbing breakcore. this is probably one of Snares' best albums... though it's definitely not easy listening.
