Gods and Queens - Gods and Queens
this is a fairly recent discovery of mine - they mix punky, fugazi-esque vocals with shoegazey riffs. the last track in particular stands out, it's a 7 minute track of noisy psychedelic rock.

The Depreciation Guild - Spirit Youth
didn't realise this was out for a while... for those who don't know them, The Depreciation Guild are a band that fuse distorted shoegaze riffs and dreamy vocals with chiptune. the energy from In Her Gentle Jaws has been toned down a bit, and the chiptune influence is certainly less prominent but it's still a solid album.

Current 93 - Soft Black Stars
Soft Black Stars is a minimal, depressing album by David Tibet, focusing mainly around his unique vocals and piano melodies. the songs mostly follow the same formula but David's odd ramblings keep the album fresh. while Judas As Black Moth is creepy to some extent, the album is overall very relaxing. the last song, Chewing on Shadows, is the only song that consists of more than just piano and vocals, with a ghost violin included (i thought it was a distorted acoustic guitar until i checked, nonetheless it's a lovely effect).

65daysofstatic - Stumble. Stop. Repeat. EP
one of their earliest releases, this EP is a lot more focused on the electronic elements rather than the post-rock elements. apparently it draws comparisons to their newest album, We Were Exploding Anyway, but i haven't listened to that yet.

65daysofstatic - Unreleased/Unreleasable Volume 2: How I Fucked Off All My Friends
this album is considered 'unreleasable' purely because the artists sampled in this would definitely not support it. 65 take a bunch of 'classics' including songs from Avril Lavigne and Justin Timberlake and distort, cut up and all-around butcher them. it's hilarious.
there are some serious songs though, two of which are unique (the last track is one of the best they've ever made) and two are remixes.

Fang Island - Fang Island
this album confuses me. the synths and melodies remind me of an old video game, but the guitarwork reminds me of baroness. so listening to this for the first time was a 'wat' moment for me. however, it certainly is a very fun album and well worth getting.

Laura - Yes Maybe No
another one of the 10 or so good australian bands, this is a kickass post-rock EP. i have no idea where or why i got it but i'm glad i did as all of its songs are solid.

La Dispute - Somewhere At The Bottom of the River Between Vega And Altair
Up, M'Lady--Pack your things, this place is not your home.
Nor was it ever, sever every tie, tonight we ride. Tonight we ride.
And how we've trembled at the way that time's
Assembled little fires of desire in the tundra of our skin.
So, do yourself a little favor, savor every time you waver
For that shaking in my voice was only slyly feigned chagrin.
Tonight we ride.
Oh, Lover, uncover. I know it's warm beneath your sheets
And there is ice along the streets but listen—Lover, we will recover.
But we've no time to waste with meddling in affairs
We've locked so tightly in our dreams.
We are not clean, we are not pure, we can not rest until we're sure.
So, rob your pretty little eyes of sleep's disguise.
I'm at your bedside with a bucket full of lies.
So, clear your ears and listen---
Up, M'Lady--Pack your things, this place is not your home.
as a big fan of post-hardcore / screamo, i had seen these guys mentioned plenty of times but for some reason never bothered to check them out. after i listened to the album i was kicking myself. hopefully the large wall of amazing lyrics (they are all that good) will persuade someone to download it, as i think this album is absolutely flawless.

Minus the Bear - OMNI
i haven't really had much time to upload stuff between playing audiosurf and trying to revise for a french exam so i'm just going to be lazy and link the new MTB album.
it's pretty good, especially the last 3 tracks. i wasn't too optimistic after the first track which i think is awful (WHERE ARE THE GUITARS) but it gets better.

Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (II)
i don't think this is particularly good but someone might want it... get it for Year of Silence which is excellent, and one of the #6-8 songs, and Birds. you don't really need to listen to anything else as most of the other songs stick to that formula (some have more loud bits than others).
if you listen to the last song and imagine that alice glass is drowning, the album gets a lot better.

Xanopticon - Liminal Space
this album blows my mind. it's a constant onslaught of incredibly technical electronic music that lasts for almost an hour. pure noisy brilliance. listening to this puts me into a trance.

My Bloody Valentine - Glider
shoegazeeeeee. i think the Tremolo EP is better (might post it tomorrow) but this has an extended version of Soon so it's automatically awesome. Off Your Face is a damn good song as well.

The Residents - Not Available
i've known of this band for a while due to their reputation as 'avant-garde' genii or something. i suspected them to be gimmicky but decided that i should give them a listen before writing them off. what i got was certainly better than i was expecting. it's not overly weird for the sake of being weird but still remains interesting. it creates a wonderful atmosphere in its own strange way.

Off Minor - Innominate
Innominate is the follow-up album to the excellent screamo album The Heat Death Of The Universe. while i feel the vocals are a little bit weaker, the guitarwork is top-notch, and the 7 minute epic Family Circus helps to solidify this as a very strong album.

Cutting Pink With Knives - Populuxxe
so... this is basically grindcore mixed with synthpop. there aren't that many grindcore elements in this to be honest, this definitely leans more on the pop side; it's mostly synth driven, the guitar riffs dispersed through the album are more mathy than anything and there's no growling, only shouting. it's fast and there are blast beats though.
this isn't an album to be taken seriously, that's for sure. it's fun as hell, though.

since i have an external hard drive (pictured laptop only has about 60 gb of space total anyway) all my music is safe but obviously i won't be updating for a while.
